Creating and Populating Featured Sliders
This tutorial explains the three main steps for setting up a featured slider / highlighted content carousel on the frontend.
Step 1: Identify the Slider Slug (0:01 – 0:14)
Before creating the category, you must know the technical name (slug) that your frontend uses for the slider.
- Navigate to App Configuration in the CMS (0:04).
- Click on the feature flag for Navigation & Links (e.g., mainMenuLinks) (0:05).
- Scroll through the items to find the desired navigation link (e.g., "Tutorials").
- Note the value in the FeaturedSlug field (e.g., featured-tutorials) (0:09 – 0:11).
- Click SAVE to exit the configuration (0:13).
Step 2: Create or Update the Slider Category (0:15 – 0:44)
You will now create or update a CMS Category that matches the slug you found.
- Navigate to Categories in the left sidebar menu (0:15).
- Click CREATE or EDIT an existing category (0:17 – 0:18).
- Ensure the Slug field exactly matches the FeaturedSlug you identified in Step 1 (e.g., featured-tutorials) (0:19 – 0:21).
- Set the ParentId to the appropriate parent category (e.g., "Tutorials") (0:29).
- Activate: Scroll down and ensure the Is active checkbox is selected (0:39 – 0:40).
- Click SAVE or SAVE & BACK TO LIST (0:43 – 0:44).
Step 3: Add Movies or Series to the Slider (0:45 – 1:12)
Now that the category (slider) is active, you can populate it with content.
- In the Category details view, click the SORT ORDER tab (0:45 – 0:46).
- Click ADD MOVIE (or ADD SERIES) (0:47).
- The movie list will appear. Search for or scroll to the content you want to include (0:49 – 1:02).
- Click the entry to select the content (1:03).
- Repeat this process for every movie or series you wish to feature (1:05 – 1:09).
- Once finished, click SAVE ORDER to confirm the list of content for the slider (1:11).
The content you added will now appear on your platform's frontend in the featured slider location corresponding to the defined slug.
